Tips for Success

  • Water

The most important water you drink is in all the hours outside of class. It takes about 20 minutes to receive the hydration from the water you drink during class and mostly just fills your belly, making you feel full, not hydrated. It’s no fun trying to stretch and compress with a full tummy.  Prioritize your hydration on the daily!

  • Food

Warning:  Eating heavy meals or large quantities before class is not recommended! Avoid eating a large heavy meal three hours before class. A simple green juice with lots of green leafy veggies and a couple of fruits blended is best or even just a banana will help if you are on the go.  Just like too much water makes you feel full so will too much food and the wrong foods.  Eat smart pre class so you can eat well post class!

  • Listen

Listen to the teacher’s instructions. It is there to serve you and is complete. Moving into your own variations and resisting trying it the right way prolongs your learning curve and progress. Why try and fix something that is not broken.  The Bikram Yoga series is tested and proven to succeed in your overall health and wellness, working your entire body head to toe.  Try the best you can, the right way and feel the benefits yourself.. what do you have to lose?!
  • Heat

The heat is your friend. The practice becomes much easier in the heated room, allowing your body stretch to it’s maximum depth without injury. All the little aches and pains ease their way from tired joints and you find fluidity and freedom. If the heat becomes too much, just sit down with your head above your heart and your eyes open. Closing your eyes in the heat can cause dizziness. Breathe calmly in and out through your nose and you will find your heart returning to its normal rate, at which point you can rejoin the class or continue to rest.

  • Cool Down

Finish with a nice long savasana and let your body cool down gradually, allowing your central nervous system to calm down and gain maximum benefit from class.  Then when you leave you will be refreshed and re energized for the rest of your day.

  • After Care

Take care of yourself today so that you can come back tomorrow. Try to come back as soon as possible to prevent soreness in your muscles and show your mind how strong your body is.  Challenge yourself to 10 classes in your first month.  The frequency, persistent and intensity in which you practice is key to your yoga success.
