Star Student: Stephanie

Meet Stephanie Lowen…

“Life is like a disco. No matter how the music changes, you just keep on dancing.”

~From the movie: Jumping the Broom

BYV: How long have you been practicing Bikram yoga, and did you start at BYV or somewhere else?

STEPHANIE: I started here in Vernon and have been practicing since mid February of this year.

StephanieBYV: What inspired you to begin taking class?

STEPHANIE: A friend talked me into it. People have commented to me that I look like I do yoga so I decided why not try it.

BYV: What benefits did you notice right away from practicing?

STEPHANIE: I slept better! I felt calm and relaxed after class.

BYV: What long term benefits have you experienced?

STEPHANIE: I feel AHHHHHHHSOME! I no longer carry my stress around on my shoulders and neck. Very much enjoying my restful sleeps on yoga days.

BYV: What is it that motivates you to get your toes on the line as frequently as possible?

STEPHANIE: I feel like it is the greatest way for me to be the healthy person (physically and mentally) I need to be.

BYV: Have you used Bikram’s yoga as a form of therapy or rehabilitation?

STEPHANIE: Not physically, but (nothing against my former therapist) for me it is way better than therapy!

BYV: What is your favorite and least favorite posture and why?

STEPHANIE: Standing back bend is not my favorite because it scares me. I love standing head to knee even though it is a work in progress for me.

BYV: What would you suggest to a new student looking to expand their practice? Were there specific things that helped you along the way?

STEPHANIE:Toes on the line! Especially on the days when you really don’t feel like it.

BYV: Have you ever felt like running out of the room? If so, what kept you from acting on it?

STEPHANIE: A few times, yes. I tell myself it is only however many more minutes and to hang in there.

BYV: We would love to hear something personal about you and your yoga. STEPHANIE: I feel like it is the greatest way for me to be the healthy person (physically and mentally) I need to be.

BYV: Stephanie, thank you so much for your time, and your yoga practice!! You truly are a STAR STUDENT!!

“I originally thought I would take the month of August off. Turns out I went to yoga 5 mornings a week instead of my usual 3! It was truly the best way to start my day, even on the hottest summer days.”
